ARTIST KAREN LANDRIGAN’S CAREER IS “SOARING”.
Houston artist Karen Landrigan announced today that her painting “Soaring” has been selected to represent the State of Texas in the Figure50 online art exhibition. Figure50 is a leading exhibition web site and curators select only one artist from each state. The selected artist’s work is displayed online for one year. By use of a clever interactive map, art lovers can view the work of the fifty professional artists by clicking on a state.
Landrigan, who devoted herself to painting only two years ago, has won several recent awards and is a rising star in the art world. She is known for her powerful and emotional acrylic paintings and whimsical drawings. Landrigan lives and creates her art in Houston, Texas. She has been a corporate strategic designer, jewellery metalsmith and artist for more than 25 years.
Regarding this art show, Newfoundland born Landrigan stated “I am thrilled to be chosen by Figure50 for this show. It is an honor to represent the State of Texas. I love living here and we have a diverse and dynamic culture that is often underrated.”
In Figure50’s view, the United States is still one of the leading nations in contemporary art practice. Landrigan’s work was chosen by juror Maureen Bloomfield, Editor-in-Chief at The Artist’s Magazine. Bloomfield is a respected art critic who has won four grants from the Ohio Arts Council and her articles and reviews have appeared in Artforum, ARTnews, Dialogue, New Art Examiner and many local publications.
Bloomfield stated “We intend to discover and showcase the most exciting artists from border to border. The highly competitive nature of our project ensures an excellent standard, while still allowing a diverse population to compete on a local level.”
